Three weeks after the arrests, Detective Walker agreed to meet me at the station.
I arrived with a notebook and fourteen questions.

Brooke had talked about motive more than strategy. According to Walker, she had loved Ethan for years—not with tenderness, but with ownership. She believed he should have chosen her.
